Tuakana/Teina Mixed Ability Groups

This is when we first introduce Maths Word Problems.  Students work in their mixed ability  groups (tuakana/teina).  They show their thinking by identifying key ideas, draw pictures and use different strategies to solve word problems.  Students used strategies such as counting all, counting on, repeated addition and skip counting.  The interesting part is to hear them discuss and share their thinking by asking and answering questions to each other.
Give them the opportunity to be DRIVERS of their own learning.
